When Rowntree Park was nearing its 100th birthday, a number of artists local to York were commissioned to produce a painting to be displayed in the park as part of the celebrations, invoking different aesthetics in the intervening century.

For this piece, the style of railway posters in the first half of the 20th Century was chosen, reflecting York’s proud rail heritage using gouache watercolours and heavyweight Seawhite paper.

This piece has formed the basis of an ever growing series of paintings portraying the beautiful green spaces in and around York.
